Spring In Chicago

A Guide to Spring in Chicago

From cozy to colorful with green shoots and signs of spring.

As much as we love staying cozy on a dark day in front of a crackling fire warm drink in-hand, once those first green shoots start springing up, we’re ready to shake off the cabin fever and gear up for warm weather season.

Spring in Chicago is the perfect appetizer to the city’s best season (yes, we’re looking at you summer) with a slew of events and happenings representing the classic, quirky and downright fun that Chicagoans are determined to have after a Midwestern winter.

Ready to return to this great American city once all the snow has melted for good? Our picks for what to do, see, eat and drink in spring in Chicago encompasses the best of the best, from art and architecture to dining and, what else, booze.

ARCHITECTURE

Chicago’s classic architecture cruises resume in March and April, with the Chicago Architecture Center and Chicago’s First Lady Architectural River Cruise being both a local and a traveler favorite. Admiring the city’s outstanding architecture and legacy from the water is the ideal setting for a comprehensive tour of the skyline. And these cruise docents are amongst the best – they all must train for 100 hours before they can lead tours. Upgrade your ticket and you can also gain access to the Chicago Architecture Center for up to seven days post-cruise.

ART

What comes after the popular Immersive Van Gogh experience in Chicago? Why Immersive Frida Kahlo of course.

This visually stunning digital art exhibition invites you to step inside the iconic works of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. It’s also accompanied by an original score and digital projections. Check it out solo or with a group of friends, or you can also plan a very special date night with a package that includes a private juliet balcony, chocolate truffles and champagne and florals. If wellness is more you scene, Lifeway Foods is sponsoring a yoga series where you can sign up for a 35-minute sensory yoga experience in the heart of the exhibit.

Chicago’s artistic spring continues with the renowned EXPO Chicago that returns to Navy Pier’s Festival Hall from April 7 through 10. This international exposition of contemporary and modern work is a must-visit affair for any art lover. We think you’ll enjoy it so much we’ve partnered up with EXPO Chicago to offer exclusive rates for this year’s fair.

CULINARY

Chicago’s annual restaurant week attracts foodies from near and far to explore special, prix-fixe, multi-course menus from over 300 of the city’s best restaurants. And after an especially hard couple of years for restaurants worldwide, we’re thrilled to see this popular event return from Friday, March 25 through Sunday, April 10 in 2022.

Of course, with seven of the most-loved dining and drinking establishments under our roof, we’ve got a few specials up our sleeves as well. Cindy’s is offering a $25 lunch menu Mondays through Fridays that includes spring-worthy dishes such as Ropa Vieja Hash and Striped Bass Aguachile.

If you’re a dine-out for dinner person, head on over to Cherry Circle Room for a $55 dinner prix-fixe with wine pairings. Start off with Oysters Casino before moving on to a Heritage Pork Chop and capping the night off with Black Forest Chocolate Cake.

Reservations are required.

Festival Season Kick-off

Technically, true festival season kicks off in summer in Chicago with some of the most beloved events returning this year after a COVID-induced hiatus. But we can’t think of a better way to get primed for festival season than by starting it off with the Chicago Exclusive Whiskey Tasting Festival on April 30.

This high-end tasting event pours samples from more than 20 different varieties, everything from Calumet Farm 15 Year Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon to Suntory Hibiki Harmony blended Japanese whiskey. There’s also a buffet-style reception to soak up all the whiskey drinks. Tickets are available here.
