Spooky Skates, Horror Movies & Stephen King

Your guide to Halloween at the Chicago Athletic Association

OCTOBER 2019 — All Hallows’ Eve is upon us. And at the Chicago Athletic Association, the spook runs all month long. Lace up, grab popcorn, and come dressed to jump into these Halloween happenings:

Skate Night(mare) (Friday, October 18 & Saturday, October 19)
Trick or treat, skates on feet, roll around to spooky beats. Skating is back! Take your Halloween costume for a whirl around The Track, our pop-up roller rink.

Halloween Screening of Carrie (Thursday, October 31)
We’re teaming up with the Music Box Theatre to bring you a screening of the horror classic Carrie. Come dressed in your best 70’s ruffles and bell bottoms — we’re decking out Stagg Court (our vintage gymnasium) like the Senior Prom. Movie snacks, a Bate’s High boozy punch, and more will be available for purchase.

Stephen King Horror Books Brought To Life (Thursday, October 31)
Can’t get enough spook? Make your way through Drawing Room, Game Room, and Cherry Circle Room on the hotel’s second floor for a taste of some of Stephen King’s most well-known horror stories as each room is transformed to the theme of each book. Journey through at your own risk:

  • The Shining: Close that laptop when entering Drawing Room on Thursday — remember, all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy…
  • It: Don’t trust anyone posing as clowns over shuffleboard, because It takes over Game Room.
  • 11/22/63: Turn back time in Cherry Circle Room (even more than usual) where you’ll find yourself back in 1963 to set the stage for King’s 11/22/63.
