Celebration is always in the air at our restored 1893 Venetian Gothic hotel with its postcard views and historic venues. But even more so recently after we were honored to be named the Best Overall Wedding Venue in Chicago by the ultimate authority in all things weddings, Brides magazine.
According to Brides, you just can’t beat our “good food and great views,” not to mention our central location. “Wedding guests can make excursions on foot to The Bean or The Art Institute of Chicago—that is, if they ever want to leave the property, which boasts a number of restaurants and unique hang-out spaces.”
So with our multitude of spaces and places steeped in history, but rich in modern-day amenities, how do you construct your perfect day in our landmark destination with so many options? From sports lovers to culinary aficionados, read on for our Wedding Playbook picks to ensure that your day is as unique to you as your love story.
For Sports Fans and Forever Athletes
Do you have a competitive spirit?
If you’re all about sports, we are your kind of people! No other destination in Chicago embodies the spirit of play like we do. You’ll want to pay special notice to Stagg Court and The Tank, two venues that encapsulate our playfully athletic vibes and, frankly, are completely one-of-a-kind to us.
Stagg Court is our building’s original gymnasium and basketball court that has been completely revamped to serve as an extra sporty event space. Vintage vibes abound as the court still has its authentic floorboards and three hoops. The overlooking mahogany running track surrounding the court will have you and your fiancé racing to the altar.
More of a water sports couple than land sports? Our once 40-meter pool was visited by gold medal Olympian swimmers back in the day. Now, having been restored with the original mosaic pool tiles, marble walls and elegant mezzanine balcony, The Tank is an inspired option for a venue packed with sporty nostalgia.
Looking for a great sporty bachelor (or bachelorette!) party spot, or a place to blow off steam the morning of? Look no further than our Topgolf Swing Suite for a little golf and gaming.
For History Buffs and Architecture Lovers
If only these ballroom walls could talk…
No two spaces embody the old Chicago glamour and grandeur more than the White City Ballroom and the Madison Ballroom. In the White City Ballroom, go back in time with loads of Venetian Gothic architecture and a jaw-dropping ceiling of 151 plaster ‘stalactite’ embellishments that are tipped with individual filament bulbs, ready to cast a glow upon you and your guests.
Vintage stained glass and blue views as far as the eye can see over Lake Michigan set the ideal stage for summer nuptials. But winter celebrations are just as exceptional with the room’s three colossal 19th century fireplaces.
Over in the Madison Ballroom, 2,330 square feet of old Chicago sophistication awaits. Artfully restored, the space takes on a warm glow with impeccably detailed millwork, dramatic windows and original parquet flooring. Scenes of sporting events from a bygone era cover the stained glass throughout the space.
For the Full-Blown Foodies
Cheers to great meals and even better company.
We’d be remiss not to note that ALL of our venues benefit from the culinary expertise of having seven of the city’s most beloved dining and drinking establishments under one roof. Our banquets and catering trio works in perfect tandem – Director of Catering Budi Tanzil, Chicago’s leading wedding specialist; Executive Chef Christian Ragano, lead at our rooftop restaurant Cindy’s and veteran of local favorite NoMi; and Banquet Chef Juan Hernandez.
But for the ultimate in foodie palate meets iconic Chicago destination, look no further than a buyout of Cindy’s Rooftop. A casual yet elegant affair for up to 90 guests for a seated family-style dinner, or 160 for a standing cocktail reception entails use of the entire space, including indoor and outdoor bars, outdoor fire pits and the terrace. What’s more Chicago than that?
